NANOMATERIALS IN GENERATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF ENERGY DEVICES

On May 13, 2009, the official opening of the Scientific and Educational Center (SEC) “Nanomaterials in energy generation and accumulation devices” was held at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (Ivano-Frankivsk city).

Scientific groups

  • Porous carbon materials
  • Electrode materials for Lithium energy sources based on oxides, hydroxides, metal salts and metal
  • Magnetic nanomaterials and sensitive solar cells
  • Cathodic materials for Li-based power supplies based on spinel and rutile structures.

About the project

The name of the project – Creation and functioning of the Scientific-Educational Center Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (SEC) “Nanomaterials in energy generation and accumulation devices”.

The name of the higher educational institution of the project executor is Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.

Financial support (project donors):

  • US Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF);
  • Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
  • Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University

Category of work – grant.

Head of the work: Budzulyak Ivan Mikhailovich, Profesor of the Department of Materials Science and New Technologies, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
The subject, object of research is the development and improvement of technologies for obtaining oxide, chalcogenide and carbon nanomaterials for energy generation and accumulation devices, fundamental study and forecasting of their physical and chemical properties.

Predicted scientific results of work – As a result of the project, it is planned to establish the main regularities of the phenomena of co-intercalation and reintercement and formation of the corresponding complexes “host”; to formulate basic tendencies in changing physical properties of crystalline matrices and paradigms of introducing new phenomena and effects by intercalation. In the direction of carbon technologies, the improvement of the hydrothermal treatment method will allow achieving stable predicted values of the surface area of nanoporous carbon based on raw materials of vegetable origin at the level of 850-1300 m 2 / g with the possibility of purposeful modification of the characteristics of the material (surface morphology, porosity) by variation of the synthesis conditions. It is planned to optimize the conditions and modes of obtaining and modifying nanoporous carbon on the basis of complex studies of electron-ion transport processes at the interface between the electrode / electrolyte. A technical documentation will be developed for the experimental production of carbon nanoporous for supercapacitors from raw materials of vegetable origin.

Project management. The Supervisory Board of the SEC consists of: the head of the PRNU (head), the project manager, deputy heads of scientific work, academic work, international cooperation and project team leaders.

Functions of the Supervisory Board of the SEC: consideration of issues related to the financial and technical condition of the SEC, the coordination of educational plans of the REC with state educational standards, audit of the SEC.

The key point in the SEC activities is to attract young researchers, postgraduates (usually in addition to the last year of study) and students to research.
